Churchill and Blakedown's local Wyre Forest Rural Councillor, Lisa Jones, and fellow Parish Cllr Gary James, armed with bin bags and litter sticks, litter picked down the beautiful country lanes of the Parish. Sadly too many people continue to discard of their rubbish in this anti social way. Not only does it cause an unsightly mess, but the hazards it causes to other animals is well documented.
During the litter pick session, Lisa and Gary came across some fly tipping, finding a discarded lawnmower and household fan - if people can drive out to our country lanes surely they can drive to the local recycling centres.
After the litter pick session Lisa said, "It is amazing what people throw out of their car windows with no second thought to what they are doing to the environment. I am very grateful to Gary in helping me, and we were both staggered by the amount collected and finding a lawnmower in a hedge. All we ask is for people to take their rubbish home and dispose of it appropriately. I am currently working with Enforcement Officers at Wyre Forest District Council on deterrents locally including cameras in local hot spots."
