Local Wyre Forest Conservative Councillors are delighted that the new Kidderminster Train Station opens from Sunday 7th June.
Leader of the WFDC Conservative Group and the County Councillor whose Division covers Spennells, Cllr. Marcus Hart says, “This is absolutely fantastic news for my local residents and the wider residents of Wyre Forest. I was involved in this project whilst I was Leader of WFDC and it is great to see this station completely redeveloped and fit for the 21st century.”
Cllr. Nathan Desmond, whose St Mary’s Division the station is situated in says, “I am delighted that this projected is now completed. The then Conservative led District Council and the current Conservative led County Council had this project as an important regeneration and infrastructure project and were able to lobby and successfully achieve external funding, working with our Local Entreprise Partnerships as well.”
Cllr. Marcus Hart added, “I would like to thank our MP, Mark Garnier for his assistance in securing funding for this project as well. Whilst of course, at present members of the public are being encouraged not to use public transport unless essential, we know that the important reality is that after the pandemic is eventually over, good, affordable public transport links are essential for the future. It is vital we make sure that our resident’s passenger experience is a pleasant one, if we want to cut congestion and encourage people to use public transport. The facilities, with cafe and toilets go a long way to enhancing that experience.”
Cllr. Desmond added, “We will be pushing for the franchise operator to increase car parking capacity as much as possible at this station.”
