County Councillor Nathan Desmond is delighted to announce that a new cycle path is set to be built on Silverwoods, in Kidderminster as part of the Governments £250 million phase 1 Active Travel Fund for walking and cycling.
Worcestershire County Council (WCC) submitted a bid and has received £1.3 million of which this project on Silverwoods will receive £135k. This will fund the surfacing and improvement to the link between Silverwoods Way and the Worcs and Staffs Canal Towpath at Falling Sands.
This path is already exists, but in very poor condition and extremely uneven. The land is currently in the ownership of the St. Francis Group but is due to be transferred to Wyre Forest District Council (WFDC) in the future. Negotiations are underway to enable WCC in partnership with WFDC to pursue and construct this very exciting cycle path, which will connect Silverwoods to Kidderminster Town Centre and Stourport via the attractive and direct canal towpath.
Cllr Nathan Desmond said, “ This is a very exciting and much needed project that will provide a valuable 3 metre wide pathway link for walkers and cyclists from Silverwoods, to the canal at Falling Sands. I’ve had many residents from Silverwoods contact me over the last 12 months about improving this much used route to the canal as its currently extremely uneven and very muddy. This money is vital to make this much needed project happen and I know local residents will be delighted”
