At the invitation of Wolverley Secondary School Head Teacher, County Councillor Ian Hardiman, accompanied by the County Highways Engineer visited the school. The Head raised concerns for the safety of pupils whilst walking to and from the school. Specific concerns are held regarding traffic warning measures and the absence of highway crossing provision for the students.
Ian says,” This important meeting allowed us to see that additional signage is required to warn traffic, as is the need to introduce a definitive road crossing point. Pupils have no option other than crossing from the school side to the opposite (and only) pavement at school leaving time. Similarly there are difficulties for pupils who when in the village area need to cross the road to follow the route via the church.”
The Highways Engineer has agreed to call in Road Safety Officers to identify future safety options. Ian will keep the school and residents up to date on this important issue regarding pedestrian safety.
