I am delighted to announce that work is due to start in January on reconstructing the Hoobrook Island. 

I’ve been campaigning on this issue for the last 4 years and highlighting the growing problem of congestion on this island and down Wilden Lane. I’m delighted that I have played a key role in getting the £3.5m capital scheme approve at County Hall.

After 9 months of detailed work behind the scenes on feasibility studies, designs and exploration works, it is fantastic that work is finally due to start later this month. 

It is a really important and exciting project that will do much to tackle congestion around the island and on the roads off it. The project will increase capacity to 3 lanes around the island and have traffic lights on the 3 A-road arms off the island, which will together improve traffic flows and cut congestion. 

The construction programme is expected to take approximately 7 months and while clearly there will be some disruption, especially during the first phase as traffic will be reduced to one lane in all directions. As we are in a period of lockdown and vehicle numbers are hugely down, hopefully the disruption will be kept to a minimum 

I’m extremely excited about this project starting, it’s been a long time in the making but I have no doubt then when it’s completed it will make a huge improvement to traffic flows and I know local residents will be delighted that the project is finally starting
