Marcus, still not happy with the quality of work of the surface dressing brought the Cabinet Member for Highways, Cllr. Alan Amos to Spennells in December, together with a highways engineer in order to discuss this issue and so he could see for himself the issues with the excess gravel and fatting up patches and the bitumen on some kerbs.

Marcus says, “The highways engineer advises me there is nothing with wrong with the integrity of the road surface, although I still have my own view in respect of this.

He does however accept all of my points regarding the excess gravel and the fact that the bitumen up kerbs and excess gravel is unsightly and ascetically in parts the roads don’t look good. I have ensured that there will be no further surface dressing on side roads on Spennells and the next time these roads are resurfaced it will be a tarmacked road surface. I have insisted that this must be done over the next 4 years.”

Cllr. Alan Amos added, “Residents on Spennells should be reassured that Marcus as your county councillor has made very strong representations on your behalf and we have agreed that the excess gravel will be removed and that work will be done on the kerbs to remove the bitumen as I accept this is unsightly. Over time the fatting should settle down.  I can reassure residents that we will not be doing any more surface dressing and I am looking at getting the resurfacing of these roads into the capital program over the next 4 years.”
